OOH in Mississippi: The State by Numbers

For today’s Fast Fact, let’s take a look at some OOH statistics across the 82 counties of Mississippi!
The State of Mississippi gets its name from the mighty Mississippi River, whose name itself comes from the Ojibwe language, meaning “big river”. The Ojibwe (or Chippewa) people were not historically found in the Mississippi area, but rather in the northern Minnesota area, where the river originates.
The Mississippi River is the largest in North America, and is the 10th largest river in the world. Did you know that about 1% of the river’s drainage basin is actually located in Canada? In fact, there are over 80 total tributaries that connect to the river!
At the state level, Geopath audits over 9,000 spots, with inventory coming from 13 different operators! In the state, there is a total population of 2.94 million people.
Within the past 12 months, 17% of residents in the state have gone fishing, 13% have been camping, 12% have been hiking/backpacking, and 11% have gone boating. In the same time frame, 18% of residents have been to a professional sporting event, 14% have been to a theme park, and 14% have visited the zoo.
Over 1 in 4 residents plan to make home improvements in the next year, and 1 in 10 plan to look for a new job in the next 12 months!
Among state residents, 43% have stayed in a hotel/motel in the last year, and 28% plan to take a family vacation in the upcoming year. In the past 30 days, 80% of state residents say they have been to a sit-down restaurant, and 64% have been to a quick service restaurant.
