For today’s Fast Fact, we’re going to take a look at the San Diego market – the avocado capital of the United States!

In addition to being the largest avocado producer in the US, San Diego County is also home to more small farms than anywhere else in the country. It also has the most dog-friendly restaurants per capita in the US!

Did you know that all of San Diego’s lakes are man-made? In fact, it’s illegal to swim in any of them! Several famous inventions and institutions were created in San Diego as well, such as WD-40, the drive-in restaurant, and Jack in the Box!

Let’s take a look at the newest geekOUT market infographic for the San Diego DMA.

Based on the statistics in the above infographic, there is a large presence of family households in this market! Here, 2/3 of households have children, and 1/3 of households have at least one person under 18. Here, a vast majority of commuters drive themselves to work – 1 in 10 work from home in this market as well.

When looking at the top OOH Spenders within the market, you’ll note a varied group of categories represented here. As an ever-popular travel destination, the hospitality category takes the lead for OOH spend within the market. Given that the creation of the drive-in restaurant (and later, Jack in the Box) occurred in the San Diego market, it’s interesting to note the heavy presence of Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) spending on OOH here as well.
