Happy Valentine’s Day!

In the US and a handful of other countries around the world, February 14th is celebrated as Valentine’s Day – a day generally known for affection and romance. The actual origins of this holiday are a bit murky, and differ depending on where you look; there was a Christian Saint Valentine (or likely more than one), and the day’s celebrations have roots in several places, including a Roman feast from centuries ago.
However, February 14th is not just significant for its usual association with Valentine’s Day. Separately, two US States celebrated their initial statehood on this day: Oregon became the 33rd State in 1859, and Arizona became the 48th State in 1912.
In fact, Arizona became the last-added state in the continental US with its 1912 statehood!
