For today’s Fast Fact, let’s take a look at some OOH statistics across the 44 counties of Idaho!

Nestled in the northwest, between 6 other US states and Canada, Idaho is a place of rugged beauty and diverse biology. Did you know that the largest unbroken area of protected wilderness in the US can be found in Idaho? At nearly 2.4 million acres of land, the Frank Church—River of No Return Wilderness Area is outsized only by Death Valley, which is technically larger, but is made up of disconnected sections.

According to the Idaho Geological Survey, the origin of Idaho’s nickname “The Gem State” does not come from Native names for the area as purported, though in reality, this nickname has ultimately proven to be true over time! There are nearly 250 different minerals that have been identified in the state – one notable inclusion here is the Star Garnet, Idaho’s state gem, which is only found in substantial quantities in Idaho and India.

Given the state’s beauty and active lifestyles, are a few great potential audience segments to be aware of in the state!

At the state level, Geopath audits over 3,600 spots, with inventory coming from 20 different operators! In the state, there is a total population of 1.89 million people.

Within the past 12 months, 17% of residents in the state have gone bicycling, 16% have gone fishing, 14% have been camping, 14% have been hiking/backpacking, and 14% have gone running/jogging. Additionally, over 1 in 4 residents have bought athletic shoes in the past year.

Among state residents, 49% have stayed in a hotel/motel in the last year, and 31% plan to take a family vacation in the upcoming year. In the past 30 days, 87% of state residents say they have been to a sit-down restaurant, and 65% have been to a quick service restaurant.

In the last year, 24% of residents have been to a professional sporting event, 18% have been to a theme park, and 16% have visited the zoo.
