For today’s Fast Fact, let’s take a look at some OOH statistics across the 99 counties of Iowa!

Interestingly, Iowa’s county structure is quite unique, in and of itself. Unlike most states, whose county lines are dictated by natural boundaries, Iowa’s counties were largely determined by survey lines. This has resulted in a very large number of “box counties” throughout the state.

In another unique county-related bit of Iowa history – nearly half of the counties that exist in Iowa were created on a single day! On January 15, 1851, 49 different counties were created, adding to the 44 that already existed at that time.

At the state level, Geopath audits nearly 9,000 spots, with inventory coming from 30 different operators! In the state, there is a total population of about 3.2 million.

Here are a few great potential audience segments to be aware of in the state!

According to Geopath Insights Data, Iowa residents participate in a variety of outdoor activities! Of the 3.2 million residents, in the last 12 months, 42% report that they have grilled outdoors, 40% have done lawn care, and over 1 in 3 report doing outdoor gardening.

Within the past 12 months, 1 in 4 report having purchased athletic shoes, 21% have been swimming, 17% have been biking, 16% have been fishing, 14% have been camping, and 14% have gone backpacking.

Of those in the state, 1 in 3 say they regularly attend religious services, 17% have done volunteer work, and 7% are current or former military service members.
