OOH in Maine: The State by Numbers

For today’s Fast Fact, let’s take a look at some OOH statistics across the 16 counties of Maine!
Maine’s picturesque coastline is deceptively large; when accounting for all of the inlets and islands along the coast, Maine is home to 3,478 miles of total coastline! In the waters along the coast, you can find over 4,600 islands – however, of these, only 15 have a year-round human population!
Though Maine’s state capital is Augusta (which is the eastern-most state capital in the US), did you know that Portland, ME was actually the first capital? Augusta was ultimately chosen in favor of Portland due to its more central location to those in the state. Speaking of the state’s residents: Maine is in fact the least-densely populated state in the US east of the Mississippi river!
At the state level, Geopath audits about 1,000 spots, with inventory coming from 15 different operators! In the state, there is a total population of about 1.4 million.
Here are a few great potential audience segments to be aware of in the state!
Given Maine’s natural beauty and ample space, there are quite a few outdoor activity-based audiences that are well represented in the state. Of the 1.4 million residents of Maine, 1 in 4 report having purchased athletic shoes in the past year, 19% have been fishing, 16% have been biking, 15% have been camping, 15% have gone backpacking, and 15% have gone boating. In the state, 44% of residents gave grilled, and 38% have done outdoor gardening.
Of those in the state, over half have stayed at a hotel or motel in the past 12 months, and 31% intend to take a family vacation in the next year.
