With the upcoming presidential election this November, 2024 is sure to be a year filled with political discourse and media attention, some of which is already well underway! With the Iowa caucuses behind us, and the presumed party Nominees having emerged, the 2024 Presidential cycle is beginning to pick up momentum.

Political advertising is a staple of election cycles in the US and around the world. As we know, OOH is one of the oldest advertising mediums, and has been used across the world for centuries. The use of OOH in politics is something that also dates back well over a century, if not much more. In an excellent roundup written in 2020, Adomni gathered historical examples of OOH’s use in political advertising, dating back to the late 1800s!

One of OOH’s key strengths is its flexibility in format and placement. These can be major assets when attempting to spread messaging, particularly that of a political nature. As noted by Geopath President Dylan Mabin, political advertising through OOH in generally embraced in a way that many other mediums are not. There is, of course, no bigger election in the United States than the Presidential election every four years. With these elections, especially in a country that has a traditionally two-party system, maximizing the number of eligible voters that go to the polls is paramount.

To reach the masses, a variety of advertising mediums should be utilized; depending on the type of market, and the demographics of the people there, using different OOH formats can maximize the Reach of a campaign. Utilizing advanced audience targeting, with tools like Geopath’s Insights Suite, can help identify the ideal media types and placements for exposure to certain demographic and behavioral groups.
