Geopath Market Spotlight | Indianapolis DMA
GeekOUT Fast Fact Friday
For today’s GeekOUT Fast Fact, let’s take a look at the market home to the capital, and most populous city of Indiana – the Indianapolis DMA.
Did you know that Indianapolis wasn’t always the capital of Indiana? Though it has been for almost 200 years, there was a 9 year stretch in the early 1800s where the capital was actually Corydon, IN. Today, Indianapolis is nicknamed the “Crossroads of America”, with 6 major interstates that converge within the city.
There are a few things that Indianapolis does bigger than anywhere else in the world. The city is home to the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which hosts the Indy 500 – the largest single-day sporting event in the world. Indianapolis is also home to the largest children’s museum on earth!
According to Geopath Insights, there are more than 6,000 spots measured by Geopath within the Indianapolis market, which generate over 450 million impressions each week! Additionally, with a population of over 3 million, and over 1/3 of all commuting trips within the DMA taking 30 minutes or more, it is clear why advertisers are taking advantage of OOH in the market.

Not surprisingly, top national brands like Geico and McDonald’s break into the top 10 spenders in Indianapolis. Including Geico, there are multiple insurance companies making use of OOH here, as well as multiple legal services. Alcohol brands/distributers like Mark Anthony Brands and Anheuser-Busch also are taking advantage of the OOH inventory within this market.
