For today’s GeekOUT Fast Fact, let’s take a look at the market home to the largest city on the Mississippi river – the Memphis DMA.
Did you know that Memphis, TN was named after the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis? In fact, Memphis’ placement along the Mississippi River strongly resembled the ancient capital’s place on the Nile River, lending inspiration to the city’s name.
Memphis, TN is an American cultural landmark, holding a significant place in the history of art and music – notably, known as the “Home of the Blues”. The city is a hub for musicians, artists, and visitors, bringing in over 10 million tourists a year.
According to Geopath Insights, there are more than 3,700 spots measured by Geopath within the Memphis market, which generate over 362 million impressions each week! Additionally, with a population of nearly 2 million, and a third of all commuting trips within the DMA taking 30 minutes or more, it is clear why advertisers are taking advantage of OOH in the market.

When looking at the top spenders here, there is a fair mix of industries utilizing OOH in the Memphis market! Like with many markets, there are some insurance and legal services that make the top 10. Buff City Soap, a natural soap maker who started out in Memphis (nicknamed “Buff City”), is also among the top spenders here in their hometown market.
